Antone “Tony” Basque, 74, of Hilo died Sept. 30 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired sergeant with the Hawaii Police Department, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and U.S. Army veteran. Visitation from 8:30-10 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 25) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Flowers welcome. Survived by son, Dean Basque of Honolulu; daughters, Tania (Todd) Taniguchi of Honolulu and Marla (Tommy Andujar) Basque of Utah; brother, John Basque of Kona; sisters, Isabella “Dooley” (Ben) Di Fatta of Los Osos, Calif., Anita (Clement) Andrade of Volcano, Marianna (Manuel) Soares and Frances Medeiros of Hilo, Rita Lovato of West Hills, Calif.; sister-in-law, Grace Basque of Kona; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John Joseph Hamacher, 67, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 10. Born in Los Angeles, he retired as a construction contractor and was a member of the “Rat Pack” of volunteers doing small construction projects for nonprofits. A celebration will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Kona Educational Center (formerly Outdoor Circle). Donations in his memory can be made to Hospice of Kona or your favorite nonprofit. Lois Emiko Kohara, 61, of Hilo died Sept. 27 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, she worked for Y. Hata &Co., Harders and Kandi’s Drive Inn and was a member of Higashi Hongwanji Mission. Private services held.
